(Re)Designing Assessment in the Age of Generative AI, Vol. 2

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 3:15PM–4:00PM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, Teaching & Learning Central, Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster
This session will further explore the impact of generative AI on university assessment practices,  addressing how advances in this evolving field are changing the assessment landscape. Participants will be guided through a shift from traditional formative and summative approaches to focus on assessment for learning. This session will explore a variety of ways, such as diverse artifacts, interactions, and feedback mechanisms, through which students can demonstrate their learning. Participants will move beyond general considerations of AI in education to focus on prompt-engineering techniques that can be used to create innovative assessment tasks, analyze student work, and provide tailored feedback. Through case study examples drawn from various disciplines, participants will gain practical insights into how to craft prompts that elicit higher-order thinking, evaluate complex skills, and personalize the learning experience. Participants will learn a balanced approach to design assessments that not only mitigates the challenges posed by AI-generated content but also harnesses AI's potential to enhance learning outcomes and streamline pedagogical workflows. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with practical knowledge, concrete examples, and actionable strategies to design innovative, effective, and equitable assessments in the evolving landscape of AI in higher education.
