Strategic Value of High-Performance Computing at Small Liberal Arts Colleges: A Conundrum

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 9:45AM–10:30AM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, EDUCAUSE Central Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster
Small liberal arts colleges usually do not have independent funding for an on-campus high-performance computer. At the same time, faculty increasingly need and expect this kind of computing support to conduct research as they graduate from R1 institutions. Our HPC Midwest, founded by three small liberal arts colleges in Minnesota in early 2025 and expanded through networking and small gatherings, is curating existing resources and translating them into faculty-friendly information. More faculty can take advantage of existing HPC resources, and more undergraduate students can experience these types of research to better prepare them for graduate school or the workforce.
