The Future of College Graduates and Workforce Readiness

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 1:00PM–1:45PM CT | Meeting Room 209 AB, Level 2
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Today’s college students will soon define the entry-level workforce. Pandemic-era disruptions, demographic shifts, and rapid advances in technology have altered how students learn, interact, and prepare for life after graduation. Over the next 15 years, employers and educators will encounter smaller and more diverse graduating classes, persistent gaps in academic readiness, and a generation of students with unparalleled digital fluency but uneven foundational skills. This session draws on national data and institutional trends to map the challenges and opportunities ahead. We will examine the shrinking talent pool caused by declining birth rates and international enrollment, the impact of sustained learning loss on core academic competencies, and the rise of “Zoom natives” whose comfort with AI and digital platforms will reshape workplace expectations. Attendees will leave with a high-level overview of everything they need to know about the next generation of graduates as they enter a potentially underprepared labor market.
