While FERPA provides a legal framework for student data privacy, evolving data-sharing practices, especially with nonprofit data brokers like the National Student Clearinghouse, have revealed ethical and policy gaps that compliance alone cannot fully address. This session will examine how student data moves through these information pipelines, often without students’ knowledge and, at times, to their detriment.
