Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 4:30PM–5:15PM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, Enterprise Central, Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster
In response to escalating costs, tool fragmentation, and limited end-to-end visibility, our Information Technology Services (ITS) department embarked on a comprehensive overhaul of our observability framework. By integrating OpenTelemetry (OTel) alongside existing tools, we established a unified, scalable, and cost-effective observability architecture. This session will delve into our journey—from identifying challenges and setting objectives to implementing OTel for seamless data collection and correlation across infrastructure, applications, and data pipelines. We'll explore how this transformation not only enhanced system transparency and reliability but also laid the groundwork for AI-driven analytics and proactive incident management. Attendees will gain insights into practical strategies for modernizing observability in higher education IT environments, balancing innovation with operational continuity.
