The rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has disrupted traditional higher education practices while accelerating demand for AI proficiency in the modern workforce. As industries increasingly expect graduates to be fluent in AI tools, many institutions are grappling with how to integrate these technologies ethically, equitably, and without compromising academic integrity. This session draws on historical patterns of educational technology adoption—such as calculators and microcomputers—to contextualize current resistance to GAI and highlight the importance of proactive, rather than reactive, responses. We will present a balanced framework for institutional adaptation that includes interdisciplinary AI literacy, scalable faculty development, and student-centered policy design.
