What Happened in Las Vegas Didn’t Stay There: EDUCAUSE Across the Pond

Tuesday, October 28, 2025 | 4:30PM–5:15PM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, EDUCAUSE Central Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster
At EDUCAUSE 2024 in Las Vegas, a talk by the IT team from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), sparked more than just inspiration—it initiated a journey. Captivated by their metaphor of IT as the “stage manager” of the university, we reached out to the presenters, including Bob Soulliere, assistant vice president for Digital Services and Solutions at UNLV. After further conversations, we traveled to Las Vegas to see their strategy in action. This poster tells how one conference session led to a transatlantic exchange of ideas, culminating in concrete reflections and proposed changes at a European institution. We highlight key takeaways from our visit—including help desk design, the involvement of student workers, and the role of communication teams within IT—and share how these lessons are now influencing digital transformation efforts at the Jagiellonian University in Poland. Proof that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas—sometimes, it travels across the pond and helps reshape the future of IT elsewhere.
