Leadership Activities to Manage Subconscious Gender Bias

Women CIOs have described how men project unintentional gender biases in everyday encounters at our institutions. This session will examine the key findings of a recent research project of women IT leaders and engage a panel of women and men IT leaders on their related views and experiences with gender bias. We will cover how to recognize bias signals, how to avoid unintentional bias, and how to create an environment conducive to women IT professionals.

Outcomes: Increase awareness of intentional and unintentional biases expressed by men in the workplace * Obtain methods for dealing with gender bias expressed by both men and women * Identify collegial leaders/mentors/advocacy groups as sources of support for women IT professionals
