Removing Barriers: Leveraging Library and Open Resources for Student Success

Tuesday, February 19 | 2:15PM–3:00PM PT
Session Type: Poster (45-mins)
Delivery Format: Poster Session
When one professor at Concordia University, St. Paul, learned that only a third of students in his finance class purchased the $82 textbook, he wondered if he could lower the cost. He approached librarians after hearing about a new tool from the library to help faculty create reading lists. Together, they lowered the cost of course materials to zero. When students learned about the zero cost the following semester, they cheered. This success sparked a new library initiative to leverage OER, library materials, and new technology to lower costs for other courses. Learn how to get your students cheering too.

Outcomes: Learn how textbook-free initiatives could work on your campus * Identify ways you can lower material costs for students * Identify and describe potential partners on campus who can help with textbook-free initiatives
