IT governance is an important contributor to an institution's IT strategy, supporting strategic leadership in its quest build IT-institutional partnerships (one of the top 10 IT issues for 2017). The CDS survey for 2016 shows that 18% of institutions do not have IT governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) capabilities, and another 33% are in the initial stage of maturity (ad hoc, informal processes). Building IT governance from the ground up is a challenging endeavor. Done well, IT builds credibility and becomes more effective. Done poorly, IT sabotages its relationship with institutional partners, adding to bureaucracy and reducing effectiveness. To help institutions get started building an IT governance program, the EDUCAUSE IT GRC Working Group developed a Higher Education IT Governance Checklist, published in March 2017. This poster session will present the checklist.
