How to Do a “Do-It-Yourself” Enterprise System Implementation

Tuesday, October 27, 2020 | 2:00PM–2:45PM ET
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Live Session

In this session you will learn the critical elements needed for a successful DIY approach to a major system implementation. UC San Diego took a different path for implementing new ERP systems. We chose not to use consultants and system implementation partners. Instead, we performed nearly all the functions that these providers do using in-house staff. We also used, sparingly, a consultant to serve as the “guide on the side” and aggressively utilized temporary workers to allow our staff to dig into the project. This approach saved tens of millions of dollars, was delivered on time and on budget, and has significantly increased our team’s knowledge of the new systems.
