Career advancement is a combination of hard work and sacrifice that involves building a network of strong colleagues who know and respect your abilities and contributions. EDUCAUSE is beginning a pilot project to empower members by building a personalized mentoring map and creating strong community connections. This session will provide insight into the roles and responsibilities that mentors, mentees, sponsors, and managers play within higher education IT. You will actively build your own mentoring map and discuss individual roadblocks, while also contributing to the formation of ideas for a 2017 EDUCAUSE mentoring initiative.

Outcomes: Set and understand expectations of various roles that can impact career development and professional growth * Identify approaches to finding community when systemic support is limited or nonexistent * Design the initial steps in a personalized map of mentors and peers and determine how this can build the foundation for an EDUCAUSE initiative
