Reinventing the Computer Lab: A Panel Discussion

Wednesday, October 16, 2019 | 2:15PM–3:00PM CT | W184a, Level 1
Session Type: Industry Led
Delivery Format: Industry and Campus-Led Session
We often hear that students should be at the center of the learning process. Yet, in most computer labs, it seems that the computer—not the student—is at the center of the learning process. Need SPSS? Head to the statistics lab! In this panel, moderated by Apporto's CEO Antony Awaida, thought leaders from leading universities and industry will be discussing how they are reinventing the computer lab. This session will cover a variety of topics including the use of cloud based virtual computer labs by Apporto and active learning facilities. Borrowing from the "flipped class" concept, a third of this session will be presentation based, while two-thirds will be allocated to audience questions. Bring your questions and join us for a lively discussion!

Outcomes: Understand the challenges that are driving leading universities to reinvent their computer labs * Get inspired by hearing creative approaches to reinventing computer labs and supporting student-centered learning * Get all your computer lab questions answered in this engaging, audience-driven discussion
