Wednesday, October 11, 2023 | 1:30PM–2:00PM CT | W187, Level 1
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
AI is increasingly being used as a tool in higher education, with apps like ChatGPT generating written content rivaling human authorship. This session will examine the implications of AI technology for curriculum and its design in higher education and explore appropriate technological and pedagogical strategies to ensure that AI is used ethically and effectively. We will discuss how AI can be used to enhance curriculum design, such as adaptive learning and natural language processing. We will also explore the potential risks of relying too heavily on AI-generated content, including issues related to bias and academic integrity. We will touch on the effect AI will have on assessment and explore how AI can be used to enhance work instead of helping us evade it. We will consider the ethical implications of using AI for assessment, such as the need to ensure that algorithms are transparent, fair, and unbiased. Throughout the session, we will engage in a discussion of appropriate technological and pedagogical strategies. We will discuss strategies for educating faculty and students about the benefits and limitations of AI and explore ways to promote a critical and reflective approach to its use. Participants will have a better understanding of the potential benefits and risks of using AI technology in higher education and will leave with strategies for implementing appropriate technological and pedagogical strategies to ensure that AI is used ethically and effectively.
