Tuesday, October 10, 2023 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Poster #103, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Large-scale curricular innovations, especially those that require involvement from many academic departments across the university, often falter upon implementation due to inadequate attention to change management. How can a change management methodology help you succeed? Our poster session is a case study of how an educational innovation team at Bentley University charted a course to implement a large-scale First-Year Seminar redesign. Using Prosci’s ADKAR change management framework, we identified Bentley’s new Falcon Discovery Seminar as a high-risk project, recognized the human factors that determined our project’s success and developed a blueprint to guide our efforts. The outcome at Year 1 is a new, inquiry-based First-Year Seminar taught by teams of 35 faculty and 50 peer leaders with an enrollment of 1,100 students. Using faculty and student input as well as learner outcome data to measure the seminar’s performance in its first iteration, we are incorporating modifications that will sustain the change and provide continuous improvement. Your teaching and learning innovations can benefit from the lessons we learned!
