Developing Developers: Creating an Organizational Safety Net to Tackle Imposter Syndrome

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Poster #603, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Higher education IT organizations often lack clearly defined paths to enable staff to become developers; in academic libraries, this lack of transparent process makes it particularly difficult for new librarians/staff to feel confident in risk-taking during their learning journey. Our talk will discuss how our organization has tackled this problem by creating safety nets—including mentors, learning opportunities, and processes—that help nurture new developers and combat the feelings of imposter syndrome that they can often face.
