Effective Learning for Students with Special Educational Needs: Perspectives from a Global Classroom

Tuesday, October 10, 2023 | 3:00PM–3:45PM CT | Poster #105, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Before establishing principles and practices for teaching and learning of students with SEN (Special Educational Needs), we need a good overview of results of empirical studies conducted in the field. Therefore, two systematic reviews on the use of digital tools in inclusive and non-inclusive school settings were conducted, taking into consideration studies published in German (one systematic review including studies having undergone a peer review process and the second one including studies without peer-review). The results will be presented during the conference along with the findings of students’ research on the same topic. The results of German students’ research projects (duration: 1 year) were critically discussed in a global classroom in cooperation of Indiana University East and Hamburg University (Germany) in the winter/spring term 2022/2023. The aggregated results can be a sound basis for 1) improving accessibility for students with SEN and 2) for adjusting teaching materials and concepts to the needs of the students with SEN - in order to create successful learning environments in the future.
