Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
With so many changes affecting the workforce over the past several years, many of us in higher ed IT are experiencing retention and hiring challenges at a level that we have not experienced before. In this session, we will first discuss practices that have resulted in creating an engaged and effective team while also increasing retention of strong performers. Some examples include setting clear expectations for individuals, sharing short- and long-term goals, regular feedback, and creating opportunities through delegation. Participants will share and learn from others regarding individual, unit, and institutional actions that have increased retention and engagement in staff members. Next, we will discuss effective methods to build teams and make strong hires through effective and equitable hiring practices. Facilitators will share some methods to increase success by making effective hires, including recruitment and hiring practices. Participants are invited to share successes in building teams and adjusting to balancing teams with larger numbers of new hires. Come join colleagues and peers to discuss methods and practices that have worked for others.
