Getting Started with HyFlex: Building a Strong Foundation for Flexible Learning Environments

Tuesday, October 10, 2023 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Poster #108, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Flexible learning environments have become increasingly important in today's education landscape. HyFlex is an innovative approach that offers students the flexibility to choose their mode of learning: online, face-to-face, or both. This hybrid-flexible delivery can be defined more granularly on an institutional level, but the concept remains with the foundation of multimodal and student choice. This approach allows institutions to provide students with a more personalized learning experience while also ensuring that the learning objectives are met. Presenters in this session include Brian Beatty and his team of founding members of the HyFlex Learning Community. We will discuss the foundational elements of HyFlex and provide participants with practical strategies for designing and implementing flexible learning environments. We will explore key considerations such as Alternatives, Equivalence, Reuse, and Accessibility in course design, as well as examine how HyFlex can be used to enhance student engagement and achievement. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the HyFlex approach and leave with actionable steps for incorporating it into their own teaching practices. Whether you are new to HyFlex or looking to refine your existing approach, this session will provide you with the tools and resources you need to create a strong foundation for flexible learning environments.
