Inclusive Learning Spaces

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Poster #503, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
What are inclusive learning spaces? All students need to be actively engaged in the classroom in order to create opportunities for meaningful, deep learning. Unfortunately, learning space design often focuses on the “average student,” designing to the middle. An alternative pathway is to design for variability and inclusion, enabling learning spaces to support a broader range of learners and learning activities. This session is an interactive discussion on designing inclusive learning spaces where participants will discuss their challenges and successes with peers. We will examine how tools (such as the Learning Space Rating System) and frameworks (Universal Design for Learning) can be used as guides for development. We will build connections and community to further the conversation on inclusive learning spaces and bring back ideas to our home institutions about how to improve them.
