Maximizing Access and Inclusion: A HyFlex Approach to Meeting Diverse Learner Needs

Wednesday, October 11 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Poster #115, Halls F1, F2, Level 3
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Addressing the needs and learning preferences of a diverse population is at the forefront of higher education today. A HyFlex approach to meeting these diverse learner needs can be an effective way to maximize access and inclusion in educational settings. Access is one of the four pillars of HyFlex learning. According to Merriam-Webster the meaning of access is “permission, liberty, or ability to enter, approach, or pass to and from a place or to approach or communicate with a person or thing.” In this session, we will expand on what is meant by access as it relates to course delivery. We will cover how educators can use HyFlex delivery and accessible technologies to improve access to learning and create a more inclusive learning environment that meets the needs of all learners by providing multiple modes of engagement, designing for accessibility, offering flexible assessments, providing personalized support, and fostering a sense of community within and across participation modes. We’ll also hear from students in HyFlex courses talk about their perspectives on equity and quality in their learning experience.
