Tuesday, October 10, 2023 | 2:30PM–3:00PM CT | W184a, Level 1
Session Type: Industry Led
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including higher education. AI-related discussions at institutions have largely focused on the impact of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Bing AI on teaching and learning from faculty and student perspectives. The impact on higher education administration, especially in enrollment management, human resources, institutional research, data analytics, and learning outcomes, has yet to be explored. However, the successful integration of AI in higher education administration requires a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities it brings. This presentation seeks to provide insights into the role of a comprehensive analytics platform in the transition to AI-based decision-support in higher education, highlighting the potential benefits and strategies for implementation and addressing key hurdles. The emphasis will be on applications, challenges, and opportunities, including the issues of privacy, ethics, and accountability. Key topics to be addressed from a decision-support perspective will include what AI and generative AI are; types of AI; tools and techniques in AI; advanced AI and machine learning models in higher education applications; and ethics, privacy, transparency, and accountability of AI in higher education.
