What’s Old Is New Again: (Re-)Establishing an Enterprise and IT Risk Management Effort

Wednesday, October 11 | 8:00AM–8:45AM CT | W185bcd, Level 1
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
With enrollment declines, impacts of COVID, significant leadership turnover, and an announced 40% reduction in funding by the state, the University of Alaska System has weathered significant challenges in the recent past. Like other institutions of higher education, UA is subject to myriad external compliance challenges—many of which dictate the need for formal risk management efforts. Combined with a decentralized operational environment that includes unique shared governance needs, there are many layers of complexity to assess and work within. Join us as we share some of the history behind enterprise risk management at UA and our efforts to reboot, post-COVID and post-reorganization of key functions. We’ll discuss our strategic risk management efforts with executive leadership, enterprise risk management planning, establishing a brand-new IT risk management program, and coordinating information and activities between the three to inform both IT and strategic risk management activities.
