Beyond the Title II Deadline: A Maturity Model for Sustainable Accessibility (Separate registration is required.)

Tuesday, September 29, 2026 | 12:30PM–4:00PM MT
Session Type: Additional Fee Program
Delivery Format: Preconference Programming

As institutions race to meet Title II accessibility requirements, many are investing heavily in remediation efforts that address immediate risk but fail to create lasting change. Compliance alone is not a sustainable strategy. Without a coordinated approach, institutions often face fragmented ownership, duplicated effort, and escalating costs. This interactive preconference workshop moves beyond compliance to help participants build a practical Accessibility Maturity Model tailored to their institution. Informed by over two decades of systemwide accessibility work within the California State University, the session introduces a field-tested framework for evaluating and advancing accessibility programs at scale. Designed for cross-functional teams including IT, accessibility leaders, procurement, instructional design, and campus leadership, the workshop focuses on aligning efforts across key operational domains. Participants will engage in guided exercises to assess their current state, apply maturity-level ratings, and identify gaps across governance, procurement, training, and technology. Using these insights, attendees will define measurable steps toward a more coordinated and sustainable accessibility program. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a clear understanding of their institution’s current maturity level, along with a repeatable framework and actionable tools to support continuous improvement beyond the Title II deadline.

Outcomes of this workshop:

  • Apply an accessibility maturity model to assess institutional performance across governance, procurement, training, and technology domains.
  • Analyze assessment results to identify gaps, risks, and misalignment, and prioritize high-impact actions for improvement.
  • Develop a phased, repeatable roadmap with measurable indicators to advance long-term accessibility maturity beyond compliance.

Note: Participants who successfully complete this preconference workshop will be eligible to receive an EDUCAUSE microcredential. To earn this digital badge, you must complete a brief workshop evaluation and share two key learning outcomes from your experience. All registered participants will receive an email on October 5 with instructions for completing these steps. Completion of both is required. To learn how to accept and make the most of your microcredential, visit the EDUCAUSE Microcredential website.
