Discussion Hero is an open-source discussion board developed at Northwestern University. It encourages diverse points of view and respectful debate by splitting the class into masked heroes and villains, thus defining the role they take on within a discussion. Discussion Hero combines the traditional awarding of points with a progress meter that shows students how they are performing during the debate. It is currently being piloted in various courses at Northwestern as an LTI for the Canvas LMS.
