Advancing AI Strategy: Optimizing Data Management to Drive Mission Outcomes

Friday, October 02, 2026 | 8:00AM–8:45AM MT
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation
The California State University (CSU) system and its 23 universities are advancing mission outcomes such as enrollment management by adopting fit-for-purpose AI tools grounded in strong data practices. This panel will share practical lessons from CSU’s journey: how to establish the data management and governance foundations AI depends on (common definitions, data quality, stewardship, access, and ethical AI practices), and how to build from that foundation to prioritize, pilot, and scale AI use cases responsibly. While improved data management benefits many institutional priorities, this session will focus on enrollment to make the approach tangible. Panelists will illustrate how institutions can assess where they are on the data maturity curve, sequence foundational work with quick wins, and define outcome metrics that demonstrate measurable results. Attendees will leave with a clear, repeatable playbook for moving from fragmented data to trusted AI-enabled capabilities that support institutional goals.
