Beyond Bans and Prompts: The TRAIL Guides Approach to Institutional AI Literacy

Thursday, October 01, 2026 | 9:30AM–10:30AM MT
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
This session introduces the TRAIL Guides (Teaching and Responsible AI Literacy) initiative: a student-centered, partnership-based model for institutional AI literacy that trains undergraduates in learning science and AI literacy and employs them as guides, consultants, and co-facilitators for faculty. This program aims to shift the institutional conversation around student use of generative AI from academic integrity and compliance to trust and curiosity, and from tool mastery and efficiency to relationships and reflection. The TRAIL Guides initiative will be recognized as an Emerging Example in the 2026 EDUCAUSE Horizon Report, Teaching and Learning Edition.
