Camera shy, privacy-conscious, or simply camera-free? You don't need video to build meaningful instructor presence. E-learning literature and research strongly suggest that online instructors should build their presence into a successful asynchronous course. However, many faculty often assume that replicating in-person presence requires a talking-head video in every module. This poster presentation will challenge the talking-head video assumption by highlighting five evidence-based strategies for building authentic instructor presence in asynchronous courses without video. These include voice recording, avatar use, responsive engagement, and personalized audio feedback—demonstrating practical tools that any faculty member can implement regardless of technical skill, comfort level, or accessibility needs.
