Building Resilience in a Small LMS Team: A Practical Business Continuity Plan at TWU

In higher education, small LMS administration teams often face significant risks from staff turnover, system updates, emergencies, and increasing demands for Level 2 support. At Texas Woman’s University, the Faculty Affairs LMS Administration team created a comprehensive business continuity plan to ensure reliable Canvas operations, consistent documentation, and uninterrupted support for teaching and learning. This poster presents our practical framework, including defined team roles and core competencies: researcher, writer, collaborator, time manager, data analyst/programmer, and project manager; structured Level 2 support processes with clear escalation paths to Level 3; documentation strategies featuring a robust Canvas Knowledge Base and standardized procedures; and operational continuity practices such as shared access credentials, calendar transparency, weekly task-logging, and regular team meetings. The plan integrates quality assurance, Canvas Data workflows, training resources, and project management templates to reduce single points of failure. Attendees will gain actionable tools and templates to strengthen resilience in their own LMS teams and better align operations with institutional goals of faculty empowerment and student success.
