Camera-Ready at the Library: Professional Portraits for Academic and Clinical Careers

This project began with a single patron’s request for a professional portrait. In response, a small photography studio was created, equipped with high-quality cameras, LED lighting, and a comfortable private space. Patrons schedule a 15-minute session to have their photo taken. Without formal advertising, the service quickly gained popularity through word of mouth. Within 24 hours of announcing the new service, more than 300 requests were submitted. To date, over 6,000 photos have been provided to members of the campus community. This project highlights the library’s role as a provider of practical professional resources, especially during a time of limited budgets in higher education. By offering access to quality media equipment and a free photography service, the studio supports career readiness, professional development, and equitable access. The immediate success of the service has made it a staple of our library offerings. Moving forward, our goal is to scale and streamline the program to ensure sustainability in both cost and labor. Our approach and lessons learned may help other libraries develop similar services and encourage broader conversations about expanding offerings within restrictive budgets. This poster will showcase the studio setup, user feedback, a timeline of service milestones, and future goals and challenges, along with suggestions for scaling the service based on community needs and available resources.
