From 10 p.m. Questions to Graduation Plans: Governed AI That Meets Students Where They Are

Thursday, October 01, 2026 | 3:15PM–4:15PM MT
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
Students navigate an academic journey spread across disconnected systems: registration, course materials, financial aid, housing, and advising, each in its own place. When a question surfaces at 10 p.m. or on a weekend, the answer is usually to wait, and then piece it together across offices, portals, and handouts. This session shows what it looks like when students get that picture instantly. A governed AI assistant embedded in the campus portal connects to the SIS, LMS platforms like Brightspace and Canvas, housing systems, financial aid, and more, answering questions and delivering personalized action plans. A student who discovers a hold gets a plain-language explanation and steps to take. A student mapping their graduation path gets a personalized plan with advisor availability to review it. Personalization starts before the student types a word: SSO loads real-time context at login. Security inherits existing governance and students stay in control: explicit approval is required before any action is taken. The assistant reaches students before they come looking, providing proactive notifications around deadlines, financial aid, and upcoming milestones, catching small issues before they become barriers. Implementations show 97% high student satisfaction, a 70% reduction in financial aid follow-up, and 24/7 guidance without adding staff. When students stop hitting walls, they feel seen and empowered—and that drives better performance, higher persistence, and stronger retention!
