The use of AI for a variety of educational purposes is increasing. Among the potential applications of AI in this context is grading, where AI tools can help provide more detailed feedback to students while maintaining a personalized, rigorous process. However, the use of AI grading can also generate negative feelings among students, which could hamper their overall confidence in learning. Our presentation will focus on empirical data we have collected in multiple courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels regarding students' perceptions of and responses to AI grading and will also include the process we followed in building an AI grading bot. We aim to provide guidance to educators seeking to use AI for grading in meaningful and positively-viewed ways.
