Making ERP Data Visible: Realizing Value through Identity

ERP systems are designed as authoritative sources of institutional data, defining who people are and how they relate to the organization. For most of the campus that data remains largely invisible, noticed only when problems like onboarding delays, inaccurate data, or last-minute requests arise. Identity and access management makes ERP data tangible by connecting it to people’s day-to-day lives. It enables immediate access to systems, reduces manual effort and friction, and consistently applies business decisions across services. When access works as expected, people can do what they need to do, when they need to do it, and the value of accurate, timely data becomes clear. Many institutions are still early in operationalizing ERP data through identity. Without alignment between identity strategy, enterprise data, and life cycle processes, access decisions remain manual, exceptions are the rule, and ERP investments do not fully deliver value. This session brings together institutional perspectives on how identity makes data visible and how that visibility improves data process, governance, and user experience. Through real-world scenarios and peer discussion, participants will explore how identity becomes a catalyst for realizing ERP value across campus. Participants will leave with practical approaches for positioning identity as a core component of enterprise architecture and ensuring that institutional data consistently drives access and operational outcomes.
