As higher ed institutions face increasing demands on network performance, security, and user experience, many are re-evaluating how campus networks are delivered and supported. This session examines three common approaches to campus networking: institution-managed operations, Networking-as-a-Service (NaaS), and fully managed network partnerships. Through candid discussion and real-world experiences from institutional technology leaders, panelists will explore how each model addresses challenges such as staffing constraints, infrastructure modernization, evolving user expectations, and the need for reliable connectivity across campus. Participants will evaluate key differences in operational responsibility, support structures, issue resolution, performance optimization, and long-term risk management. The discussion will highlight lessons learned from institutions that have adopted or transitioned between network operating models, examining where service-based approaches align with institutional needs and where more comprehensive operational partnerships may be required.
