Identity and access management (IAM) is often approached as a series of technical projects—resulting in technical debt, competing priorities, and limited alignment with broader institutional goals. A technology-first approach to IAM can miss the point. When approached programmatically, IAM is a core strategic capability that shapes security, user experience, and operational effectiveness. This session brings together leaders from institutions at different stages of the IAM journey: early recognition, paused or constrained progress, and active implementation. Through structured comparison of real-world decisions—such as governance, lifecycle ownership, and alignment with enterprise systems—participants will see how identity strategies evolve in response to institutional context. Attendees will gain practical insight into assessing their current approach, reframing IAM beyond IT, and identifying next steps toward a sustainable, programmatic identity strategy aligned with institutional priorities.
