What happens when artificial intelligence is used not just to create open educational resources (OER), but also to shape whose knowledge is included and whose is left out? This interactive preconference workshop invites educators, instructional designers, and open education practitioners to critically explore both the transformative potential and ethical risks of AI in OER development. Through hands-on activities, case studies, and collaborative design, participants will examine issues such as bias, representation, data privacy, and academic integrity, while learning practical strategies for integrating AI in ways that are transparent, inclusive, and pedagogically sound. Attendees will leave with tools and frameworks to evaluate and create OER that not only leverage AI’s efficiency, but also uphold equity, accessibility, and human-centered learning. Outcomes of this workshop: be able to critically evaluate the ethical risks and biases of AI in OER development; be able to apply practical strategies to integrate AI responsibly into OER workflows; and be able to collaboratively design or adapt an OER using ethical and inclusive AI principles. Upon successful completion of this preconference workshop, participants will be eligible to receive an EDUCAUSE microcredential. To earn this digital badge, participants must complete a brief workshop evaluation and share two key learning outcomes from their experience. On October 5, all registered participants will receive an email with instructions for completing these steps. Completion of both is required. To learn how to accept and make the most of the microcredential, visit the EDUCAUSE Microcredential website.
