What Happens When Everyone Can Design? The AI and Governance Questions CIOs Can't Ignore

Thursday, October 01, 2026 | 9:30AM–10:30AM MT
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
AI-assisted design tools have quietly become one of the most widely adopted technologies on campus, often without IT ever signing off. Faculty are building course materials. Admissions offices are running campaigns. Student affairs teams are producing content overnight. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, the CIO is fielding questions nobody prepared them for.Who governs what gets made? What happens to data privacy when 400 people across campus are generating AI content? How do you make a principled procurement decision about a category of tool that your institution is already using anyway? This discussion session brings together CIOs and senior technology leaders to surface the real and not the idealized questions. Facilitated by a University of Texas IT leader and a higher education technology partner, the session is designed for honest peer exchange: what you're seeing, what you're worried about, and what's actually working.
