Designing a Faculty Community of Practice to Enhance the Student Experience
Through the Student Experience Project Community of Practice (SEP COP), the University of Texas at San Antonio invests in faculty growth and development to cultivate a sense of belonging, promote a growth mindset, and foster learning mindsets to improve classroom performance, and persistence to degree completion. Faculty participants collaborate to create a future of higher education where all students, especially those who face barriers, feel supported to overcome academic challenges and graduate successfully. Our early results are strong, with faculty reporting positive shifts in their mindsets, data indicating improved classroom conditions and outcomes, and increased student engagement with faculty. Feedback from faculty involvement underscores benefits, including enhanced faculty collaboration and a deeper understanding of student needs, enriching the educational experience and faculty fulfillment, and fostering a community dedicated to growth and excellence. Presenters will share a replicable blueprint for institutions aiming to elevate student outcomes and enrich classroom learning environments. By adopting and customizing SEP COP methodologies, institutions can heighten faculty awareness of student needs, empower data-driven decision-making, and implement evidence-based strategies to foster a culture of inclusivity and promote learning mindsets.
