Empowering Educators: Embracing Change and Redefining Identities in the AI Landscape (separate registration is required)

Monday, October 21, 2024 | 12:30PM–4:00PM CT | Meeting Room 006CD, River Level
Session Type: Preconference Workshop
Delivery Format: Additional Fee Program

In this immersive and interactive workshop, participants will embark on a journey to collectively explore and define our relationships with generative AI tools. Through playful and guided reflections, discussions, and hands-on activities, we will map our relationships with generative AI, refine teaching and/or administrative philosophies, share guided reflections on the generative potential of AI in teaching and learning, and undertake case study analyses of ethical dilemmas in generative AI integration. These activities will empower educators to chart a forward-thinking path in harnessing the capabilities of AI while leveraging our distinctly human abilities and advocating for our ability to collaborate harmoniously with the tools that have become ubiquitous in our professional environments.

In less than two years since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT and other generative AI technologies have already made significant impacts across all sectors of U.S. life, including healthcare and higher education (Pew Research Center, 2023). For educators, instructional designers, IT professionals, academic leaders, and practitioners, generative AI has not only introduced new tools to our toolkits, it has fundamentally transformed our professional identities and roles. In the rush to adopt generative AI tools, though, we may have neglected to consider how the relationships we have to AI impacts our identities as educators and professionals.
