Equity and Access: Making AI Work for HBCUs, HSIs, and Broad-Access Institutions

Tuesday, October 22, 2024 | 1:45PM–2:30PM CT | Meeting Room 207, Second Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
The emergence of new artificial intelligence-powered technologies holds vast potential for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Broad-Access Institutions to improve access, equity, and personalization in the student experience. How institutions integrate these tools, and their access to resources that enable their use, will shape whether AI amplifies disparities or fosters inclusivity and innovation. What do institutions need to know about implementation? What are the barriers and limitations to AI integration for historically under-resourced institutions? This panel session will bring together leaders and practitioners from HBCUs, HSIs and Broad-Access Institutions to highlight strategies for evaluating, implementing, and using AI to augment existing student success strategies. They’ll also discuss the pitfalls, potential, and unrealized promise of AI as a lever for advancing access, equity, and student outcomes.
