Navigating Digital Transformation: Approaches to Assessing Digital Maturity in Higher Education

Wednesday, October 23, 2024 | 3:00PM–3:45PM CT | Meeting Room 008AB, River Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session

Universities are facing significant disruption due to the economic crisis, along with the lasting impact of the pandemic on staff and student well-being. The sector is responding to these challenges by developing robust digital transformation strategies. The benefits of digital transformation are manifold: a university that uses technology to its maximum potential stands to enable a healthy research culture and high-quality teaching and learning, but will also leverage the use of data, improve accessibility, optimize efficiency, bolster cybersecurity, protect itself financially, and reduce its environmental impact. The path to successful digital transformation demands targeted investments, digitally aware leadership, robust and secure infrastructure, engaged stakeholders, uniform data practices, digitally proficient staff and students, and a cultural shift toward digital adoption. Jisc has been working with 25 universities (24 in the UK and 1 in France) that have been adopting and adapting Jisc’s framework and maturity model for digital transformation. They have been self-assessing their digital maturity across academic, professional services, and IT departments to baseline their existing practice and to identify priorities for investment and development.

This session will discuss emerging approaches to supporting digital transformation. Attendees will be asked to consider their organization’s digital maturity and what their priorities are for digital transformation.
