Prospective Student STEM Program as a Collaborative Model for Recruitment and Student Success

Tuesday, October 22, 2024 | 10:30AM–11:15AM CT | EDUCAUSE Commons, Teaching & Learning Central Poster Area
Session Type: Poster Session
Delivery Format: Poster Session
This session will examine how departments at the University of Arizona Libraries (UAL) and the Office of Early Academic Outreach (EAO) collaborate in a program that engages with Native American and first-generation prospective students, supports student recruitment, and strives to ultimately contribute to the university's student success mission. Participants will learn about the Native American Science & Engineering Program (NASEP) offered by the University of Arizona's EAO. Presenters will describe UAL's CATalyst Studios and Technology Strategy & Services department, two library units that work together with EAO to conduct a half-day computer build workshop as part of NASEP's annual weeklong residential program. Presenters will further describe how the event exemplifies the university's values as a federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native-Serving Institution, strengthens its recruitment efforts, and aligns with UAL's focus on student success. The concluding discussion will address how this collaboration can serve as a model that may be applied to other institutions, technology groups outside of the libraries, and other underserved student populations.
