Sticker Shock: Cost-Containment Strategies

Wednesday, October 23, 2024 | 3:00PM–3:45PM CT | Meeting Room 205, Second Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
In January 2024, Gartner released a forecast for information technology spending, suggesting that spending would grow by almost 7% in 2024. Such an increase looks timid compared to the sticker shock many higher education CIOs and IT directors have observed in recent months. Juxtaposed to these rising costs for IT goods and services are institutional revenue limitations such as a shortfall in expected tuition dollars or institutional allocation priorities that channel available funds to other areas. Higher costs and limited allocations require creative, and at times difficult, decisions by university technology leadership to manage IT budgets. This session will explore cost-containment strategies and offer perspectives from several institutional IT leaders on the effectiveness of these strategies.
