Thriving in Higher Education: Strategies for Belonging, Motivation, and Growth
Universities have an immense talent pool at their doorsteps, yet our graduates dream to work with other sectors which might be more attractive. Is it our internal work culture, noncompetitive salaries, the slow pace of change, or all of it? This panel discussion is a continuation of the work initiated at BCNET 2023 in Vancouver, Canada, to further develop and retain talent which aligns with the Young Professionals at EDUCAUSE. The panelists, four remarkable young professionals who are thriving, will delve into their journeys and share how they are shaping an inclusive and welcoming higher ed for other young professionals. Did you know that one of the easiest ways to retain staff is to capture them early in their career and provide them with training and development opportunities? We explore what it means to belong. How does it impact motivation, confidence, and overall well-being? Young professionals often face imposter syndrome and isolation. Our goal is to dismantle these barriers. Safe spaces allow vulnerability and growth. We explore how to create environments where authenticity thrives. Allyship, being an advocate for others, plays a pivotal role. How can we be better allies? Organizations can cultivate a sense of collaborative community, create learning and growth opportunities, flexible work arrangements, and an inclusive culture.
