UDL From Grassroots to the Boardroom

Wednesday, October 23, 2024 | 10:15AM–11:00AM CT | Meeting Room 007AB, River Level
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
Most of us know how to implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in individual activities, courses, and service interactions. But how do we go from having a few people who know a lot about inclusive design to helping everyone to know and do a few keystone practices based on the UDL framework? This presentation will help technology leaders, educators, and designers understand how to incorporate the UDL framework into the systemic design of our IT infrastructure, processes, policies, and practices—as a strategic priority at both the grassroots level as well as in the boardroom. In this interactive session, we’ll share a brand-new UDL toolkit that helps educators make measurable progress, and you will learn how the principles and checkpoints in the UDL framework translate into action plans for UDL along three strategic pillars of access, inclusion, and predictability. You will take away models for attracting funding, resources, and time for systemic UDL applications. Discover how to work alongside instructors, designers, fellow technology professionals, and executive leaders to create system-level UDL supports that allow grassroots efforts to flourish.
